Tim Castleberry Coaches AwardThe Tim Castleberry Coaching Award was established to remind all coaches of the importance of positive coaching, emphasizing some of the important qualities of the ideal coach, and motivating them to strive toward achieving these ideals. While this award is not intended to be a "Coach of the Year" award for the coach with the best win-loss record or success in post season play, it is expected that the coach receiving the award will have contributed significantly to the soccer skills of his/her players. The coaches should, as did Tim Castleberry, embody the highest ideals of AYSO Coaching. Foremost among these was Tim's concern for the players: that they have fun; develop a healthy attitude toward competition; enhance their self-esteem; and improve their ability to play soccer. Tim clearly understood that many things are more important than winning. He recognized that his players were young people with abilities, interests and needs that are sometimes different from those of adults. He respected the dignity of the players, referees, coaches and parents he encountered in AYSO. He sought understanding, compromise and consensus where others might have argued. He was a true gentleman who exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and patience at all times. He was always striving to improve his understanding of the game of soccer and always willing to share his knowledge, time and expertise with other coaches, players and referees. He was not only an excellent coach, but also an excellent referee who was dedicated to improving his understanding of the subtleties of the Laws of Soccer, and improving his ability to meet the challenge of applying them under actual game situations. This award honors coaches who embody these ideals and commemorates Tim Castleberry, a man who's memory is an inspiration to all of us who new him. We are proud to honor the past recipients of this award below
